390-Meter Historic Street Brought to Light in Side Ancient City
Excavation works carried out within the scope of the Heritage for the Future Project have brought to light the monumental street bearing traces of the Roman and Late Antique periods, along with the Gate of Hercules, contributing them to the world of archaeology.
With the completion of comprehensive excavation works carried out in the Side Ancient City, an approximately 390-meter-long monumental street and the valuable remains upon it have been brought to light.
Excavation Works Completed
Archaeological excavation works carried out on the street, which is one of the most important transportation axes of the Side Ancient City, have been successfully completed.
Gate of Hercules Brought to Light
The Gate of Hercules, which stands out in the works, features depictions of the Twelve Labors of Hercules and the city's gods and goddesses.
Traces of Historical Transformation
Extending between the northwest corner of the Gymnasium and the East Gate, the street reveals the architectural transformation stretching from the Roman Period to Late Antiquity.
Important Reliefs
It was determined that the reliefs dating to the early 3rd century AD were reused in the construction of the gate during Late Antiquity.
Heritage for the Future Project
Within the framework of the Heritage for the Future Project conducted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the multi-layered history of the region continues to be illuminated.
