45.8% of Istanbul Residents Did Not Attend Any Cultural or Artistic Events in the Past Year
A study by the Istanbul Planning Agency revealed that nearly half of the city's residents have not attended any cultural or artistic events in the past year, with high ticket prices being the biggest obstacle.
According to the July issue of the Istanbul Barometer research by the Istanbul Planning Agency, 45.8% of Istanbul residents did not participate in any cultural or artistic events in the past year, and high ticket and admission fees were determined to be the biggest obstacle to participation.
Details and Scope of the Research
The July issue of the Istanbul Barometer, the monthly data bulletin of the Istanbul Planning Agency affiliated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, has been published.
The thematic research topic was determined as culture and entertainment habits in Istanbul and was conducted with a total of 758 people.
Participation Rates in Cultural and Artistic Events
According to the survey results, 45.8% of the participants stated that they did not attend any cultural or artistic events in the past year.
Among the events, concerts constituted the most common preference with a rate of 33.9%, followed by theater and art gallery visits.
Obstacles to Participation in Events
At the top of the reasons making it difficult to participate in cultural and artistic events was the high cost of tickets and admission fees, with a rate of 45%.
In second place, the option of not finding time due to work and school was expressed by participants with a rate of 38.1%.
Economic Conditions and Spending Cuts
The expenditure item most frequently curtailed due to economic conditions was social venue spending, such as restaurants and cafes, at 41.4%.
While cuts were made in purchasing concert or theater tickets at a rate of 37.6%, 39.8% of the participants stated that they did not make cuts in any expenditure category.
Digitalization and Entertainment Habits
The rate of those who prefer to attend events physically was determined as 56.9%, while the rate of those who prefer digital content was 28.5%.
The average daily time allocated to digital entertainment content was determined to be 3 hours and 8 minutes in total.
