Prior to a talk organized by the Kocaeli University International Relations Club with the participation of former TBMM Speaker Bülent Arınç, the club's activities were suspended by the university administration, and the club president resigned.

Talk Plan and Cancellation Process

The Kocaeli University International Relations Club had planned to hold a talk on June 9 with the participation of former TBMM Speaker Bülent Arınç. The club announced to the public on May 21 that Arınç would be a guest.

Immediately following this announcement, on May 22, a temporary closure decision regarding the club was made by the Kocaeli University administration, and the planned event could not take place.

Venue Search and Allocation

Upon failing to find a suitable conference hall for the event within the university, the club management began searching for alternatives outside the university.

As a result of negotiations with İzmit Municipality and Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, following the request submitted to Metropolitan Mayor Tahir Büyükakın, the Genç Sahne within the Public Education Center was allocated for the event.

Investigation Process and Resignation

Following the temporary closure of the club, the preliminary examination and investigation process initiated included Club President Nail Karagülle and some members of the former management.

Nail Karagülle announced that he resigned from his post, arguing that rights violations occurred during the review process, and stated that the application for the cancellation of the closure decision was rejected.

Past Events

The Kocaeli University International Relations Club had hosted various academic and cultural events involving different figures in previous periods as well.

In the past, the club had organized programs featuring former Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus President Ersin Tatar and retired Rear Admiral Cihat Yaycı.
