Ahmet Kaya Award Presented to Homer Dizeyî at the Sulaymaniyah Film Festival
At the event held in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, this year's recipient of the award given in memory of Ahmet Kaya was Kurdish artist and researcher Homer Dizeyî.
Within the scope of the 6th International Film Festival launched in Sulaymaniyah under the theme of human dignity, the award named after Ahmet Kaya was presented to Kurdish artist Homer Dizeyî.
Start and Theme of the Festival
The opening of the 6th International Film Festival, held in the city of Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, took place. Organized by Masti Film and running until September 15, the event meets cinema enthusiasts under the theme of human dignity.
While the opening date was set for September 9, the death anniversary of Kurdish director Yılmaz Güney, a total of 108 domestic and international films are presented for the appreciation of cinema enthusiasts at the festival.
Recipient of the Ahmet Kaya Award
The Ahmet Kaya Award, presented annually to prominent figures from the art world within the scope of the festival, was given this year to Kurdish artist and researcher Homer Dizeyî. Known for the written works he has brought to Kurdish music and his original style, Dizeyî is recognized for his work synthesizing Western classical music with traditional melodies.
Awards in Previous Years
The award given in the name of Ahmet Kaya was presented to author and sociologist İsmail Beşikçi at the 5th International Sulaymaniyah Film Festival held last year. Organized in previous years with the theme of Kurdish culture and mother tongue, the event continues to draw attention internationally with each passing year.
