Akbank Sanat Participates in Contemporary Istanbul with the Exhibition "Strange Things Are Happening"

Akbank Sanat presents the exhibition titled "Strange Things Are Happening", curated by Prof. Dr. Hasan Bülent Kahraman, to art enthusiasts at Tersane Istanbul during the 21st edition of Contemporary Istanbul.

Theme and Scope of the Exhibition

Held at Tersane Istanbul, the exhibition focuses on the shocks created in our consciousness by global transformation, rapidly developing technologies, and changing daily rhythms.

The event invites art lovers to explore the fine line between the uncanny and pleasure.

Displacement and Alienation

Whatever we are accustomed to and find familiar in the world is being displaced by the radical transformations brought about by the era.

The exhibition focuses on how this sense of displacement upends our normative memory and conscious structures.

Participating Artists and Works

Esra Özdoğan, Gülin Hayat Topdemir, and Nazif Topçuoğlu make stories of alienation visible with their unique visual languages.

An existential crisis—where all objects feel very familiar yet completely alienated as a whole—forms the starting point of the works.

Special Support for Students

Akbank brings approximately 250 students studying at fine arts high schools and universities together with the fair through free, special guided tours.

Students are provided with the opportunity to discover contemporary art productions and new approaches in the art world firsthand.
