Comprehensive Restoration Completed at Istanbul Archaeology Museums
With multi-stage restoration and reinforcement works carried out at the Istanbul Archaeology Museums, the buildings were renewed, thousands of tiles in the Tiled Kiosk were repaired, and the main entrance was moved to Gülhane Park.
Long-running restoration, reinforcement, and exhibition works at the Istanbul Archaeology Museums have been completed. While historical structures were renewed in accordance with their original architecture, the main entrance of the museum was moved to Gülhane Park, and exhibition areas were reorganized with a contemporary museology approach.
Restoration in the Classical Museum Building
As part of the first-stage works initiated in the Classical Museum Building, reinforcement and restoration procedures were carried out on the 1891 section and the southern wing.
Museum of the Ancient Orient Renewed
The reinforced concrete and jack-arch ceiling slabs and masonry walls of the Museum of the Ancient Orient were reinforced, its roof was renewed, and its facade sculptures were placed under protection.
The Assyrian, Sumerian, Babylonian, Hittite, and Egyptian halls were reorganized with a contemporary museology approach under scientific consultancy.
Thousands of Tiles Repaired in the Tiled Kiosk
Later-added infills on the roof of the Tiled Kiosk were removed, returning to original applications, and the exhibition layouts of the halls were also changed.
An inventory was taken of approximately 54,000 tiles on the exterior facade of the kiosk, and repairs were carried out with individual intervention charts for each of them.
Entrance and Landscaping
The main entrance of the Istanbul Archaeology Museums was moved to Gülhane Park, and a new visitor welcome center was established there.
Osman Hamdi Bey Slope and the museum courtyard were landscaped, and numerous archaeological artifacts began to be exhibited for open display to visitors.
