Elazığ Archaeology and Ethnography Museum Opened to Visitors in Its New Location
Thousands of years old artifacts are exhibited in the new museum building, which was inaugurated with a ceremony attended by Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.
Carrying the thousands of years of civilizational heritage of Elâzığ and Anatolia into the future, the Elâzığ Archaeology and Ethnography Museum was officially opened to service with a ceremony held with the participation of Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.
Opening Ceremony Held
In addition to Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Elâzığ Governor Numan Hatipoğlu and Elâzığ Mayor Şahin Şerifoğulları attended the opening program of the Elâzığ Archaeology and Ethnography Museum.
History and New Building Process
The old museum building had been damaged in the terrorist attack in 2016. Taking into account the earthquakes in the region, the former high school building (idadi) built in 1885 was taken over from the Ministry of National Defense and converted into the new museum.
Archaeology Department and Artifacts
Designed with a modern museology approach, the archaeology department presents 934 artifacts ranging from the Paleolithic Age to the Ottoman period to visitors across 6 halls and 51 showcases.
Ethnography and Coin Collections
While 482 artifacts are exhibited in the ethnography department, a total of 522 coins belonging to many periods such as Greek, Roman, Seljuk, and Ottoman are located in the coin department.
Harput Citadel Inspections
Following the museum opening, Minister Ersoy visited the Harput Citadel and also inaugurated the Harput Citadel Fetih Mosque.
