Events Marking the 200th Anniversary of the Invention of Photography Begin in Istanbul
The festival program organized in cooperation with the French Cultural Center in Turkey and 212 Photography Istanbul as part of the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the invention of photography was announced at IMM Taksim Sanat.
A comprehensive event program prepared in cooperation with the French Cultural Center in Turkey and 212 Photography Istanbul on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the invention of photography was announced to the public at a press conference held at IMM Taksim Sanat.
Press Conference and Cooperation Details
A press conference was held at IMM Taksim Sanat with the participation of Valentin Rodriguez, Director of the French Cultural Center in Turkey - Istanbul and Cultural Attaché, and Banu Tuncağ, Festival Director of 212 Photography Istanbul.
Organized within the scope of the Turkey Culture Road Festival with contributions from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Turkey Tourism Promotion and Development Agency, 212 Photography Istanbul meets art lovers at more than 25 venues.
The 200-Year Historical Transformation of Photography
Valentin Rodriguez stated that the process of photography extending from black and white to color, from analog to digital, is a story of continuous renewal, emphasizing that the fields of memory, family, journalism, and art will be addressed in the program.
Expressing that the program will strengthen cultural bridges between Turkey and France, Rodriguez conveyed that students as well as professionals will be brought together.
Festival and Venues to Visit
Holding its ninth edition, the 212 Photography Istanbul festival will host art lovers until October 11 with its program specially prepared for the 200th anniversary of photography.
Exhibitions can be visited at various locations such as MSGSÜ Tophane-i Amire, Galata School Foundation Cultural Center, Old Post Office (Eski Posta Han), Akaretler No:5, Taksim Sanat, Saint Benoît Church, and Abbasağa Park.
International Exhibitions and Artists
The festival features retrospective and special selections of prominent names such as Martin Parr, Yann Arthus-Bertrand, Jill Greenberg, and Frank Horvat.
The exhibition titled 'On Construction: Brazilian Modernist Photography 1939-1964', which focuses on Brazilian modernist photography, also met audiences in Istanbul for the first time.
Education, Young Artists, and Future Vision
The exhibition titled 'States of the Body', featuring works by young artists prepared in cooperation with the National School of Photography in Arles (ENSP), is on display at IMM Taksim Sanat.
Prepared on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of photography, the program will continue until next year, addressing image production methods transformed by digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
