Field research has begun for the shared cultural heritage of Turkey and Azerbaijan
Aiming to comparatively examine the traces of the oldest Turkish culture in both countries, the project seeks to fill an important gap in the academic field.
Through the joint work of TÜBİTAK and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, a comprehensive two-year field research has been launched to examine the shared cultural heritage in Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Project Introductory Meeting
The introductory meeting for the joint project between TÜBİTAK and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences was held at OMTEL, hosted by Ondokuz Mayıs University.
It was reported during the workshop that the project will last for two years and comprehensive field research will be conducted in both countries.
It Will Fill the Academic Gap
Project coordinator and OMÜ Faculty Member Prof. Dr. İbrahim Tellioğlu stated that until now, no field study has been conducted that systematically addresses the similarities between the two countries.
Tellioğlu noted that this research will fill an important gap in the academic field.
Scope of Field Studies
Field studies will be conducted in Turkey in Ordu, Rize, Artvin, Kars, Erzurum, Erzincan, and Ankara, while similar research will be carried out in Azerbaijan next year.
Examples of tangible cultural heritage will be photographed, drawn, and supported by written literature.
Common Past and Scientific Foundation
Touching upon the role of geographical locations in the distribution of cultural heritage, the researchers emphasized that the project aims to reveal historical foundations on a scientific basis.
It was noted that the study could serve as a role model for inter-institutional cooperation within the Organization of Turkic States.
