Haydar Ergülen Resigns from His Position at the Izmir International Literature Festival
Poet Haydar Ergülen resigned from his role as festival director following the party switch of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay.
Following Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay's decision to join the AKP, poet and writer Haydar Ergülen announced that he has resigned from his position as director of the Izmir International Literature Festival, which he has held for ten years.
Reason for the Resignation Decision
Poet and writer Haydar Ergülen announced that he is leaving his position at the festival, which he founded, following Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay joining the AKP. In his statement, Ergülen expressed his wish to reunite in the free days of Izmir once again.
Biography of Haydar Ergülen
Born in Eskişehir in 1956, Haydar Ergülen graduated from the METU Department of Sociology and subsequently worked in academia and the advertising sector. As one of the prominent figures of contemporary Turkish poetry, the artist has taught courses at various universities.
Literature Magazines and Works
Being a defining figure of post-1980 Turkish poetry, Ergülen took an active role in the publication preparation of prominent literary magazines of the period, such as Üç Çiçek and Şiir Atı. He explored themes such as love, loneliness, and melancholy in his poems.

Throughout his career, the artist was deemed worthy of many prestigious awards, including the Behçet Necatigil Poetry Award, the Golden Orange Poetry Award, the Cemal Süreya Poetry Award, and the Metin Altıok Poetry Award.
