Istanbul Modern Cinema is preparing to bring 11 productions from contemporary Southeast Asian cinema together with film enthusiasts between September 24 and October 4 through its Monsoon Dreams selection.
Monsoon Dreams Program
Istanbul Modern Cinema is opening its new season with the Monsoon Dreams selection. The program presents a total of 11 films from contemporary Southeast Asian cinema to the audience's appreciation.
Participating Countries and Productions
Featuring productions from the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Cambodia, the program looks at the region's social transformations, quests for identity, and daily life through different cinematic languages.
Film Selection Details
The selection includes Sunshine, A Small Job, Golden Buckle, and Tumandok from the Philippines; and We Have Waves and Finding Ramlee from Malaysia.
Thailand and Cambodia Films
Thailand's this year's Oscar entry 9 Temples to Heaven will be screened along with Human Resource and The Last Supper; while from Cambodia, We Are the Fruits of the Forest and To Be a Human will be shown.
Director Lineup
The program brings together works by master directors such as Rithy Panh and Pen-Ek Ratanaruang with the debut films of young filmmakers.
Curator's Statements
Müge Turan, the film curator at Istanbul Modern, stated that the selection focuses on Southeast Asian cinema for the first time and expressed that the program brings together different worlds.
