Küçükçekmece Opened Its New Culture and Art Season in the Name of Yaşar Kemal
The opening ceremony held at the Cennet Culture and Art Center featured exhibitions, documentary screenings, and special stage events in memory of the master writer.
Küçükçekmece Municipality launched the 2026-2027 Culture and Arts Season, named after the master figure of Turkish literature Yaşar Kemal, with a program featuring broad participation.
Season Opening Ceremony
The opening of the 2026-2027 Culture and Arts Season organized by Küçükçekmece Municipality brought together numerous names from the literary and artistic world.
The program held at the Cennet Culture and Art Center was hosted by Başak İkiz, and the event received great interest from the guests.
Broad Guest List
The ceremony was attended by Yaşar Kemal's wife Ayşe Semiha Baban, PEN Writers Association General President Halil İbrahim Özcan, and Writers Syndicate of Turkey General President Adnan Özyalçıner.
In addition, writer Hakkı Zariç, actors Ali Sürmeli, Hakkı Ergök, Cezmi Baskın, Levent Ülgen, director Nebil Özgentürk, and numerous officials and guests were present in the hall.
Exhibition and Speeches
Within the framework of the program, the exhibition titled "Yaşar Kemal Was a Violet, Violet Was Yaşar Kemal" was opened for the appreciation of the audience.
At the exhibition opening, Adnan Özyalçıner, Halil İbrahim Özcan, and curator Hakan Dağlı each delivered speeches evaluating the master's literary legacy.
Traces and Memories of the Master
Küçükçekmece Deputy Mayor Sedat Özkan drew special attention to Yaşar Kemal's lived experiences in Küçükçekmece and Menekşe during his speech.
Özkan emphasized that they want to keep the writer's traces and memories in the region alive and pass them on to future generations.
Documentary Screening
In the flow of the event, the premiere of the documentary titled "Yaşar Kemal's Menekşe", directed by Cengiz Özkarabekir, was held.
Following the documentary screening, Nebil Özgentürk also took the stage to share his feelings and thoughts about the master writer with the participants.
Special Stage Performance
During the culture and arts season opening program, artists Levent Ülgen and Cezmi Baskın performed a master-apprentice show together, providing the audience with delightful moments.
This joint stage performance was among the elements that added color to the ceremony.
Closing Concert
The season opening program, which attracted great interest and witnessed art-filled moments, concluded with a concert given by Cengiz Özkan and his orchestra.
