Local press archive shedding light on Mersin's recent history is being digitized

The Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mersin Memory Office is preparing to digitize and make available to researchers the archive of the Tarsus Yeni Ses Newspaper, which sheds light on half a century of the city's recent history, covering the years between 1969 and 2011.
Scope of Archive Studies
The Mersin Memory Office, operating under the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Department of Culture, Art and Social Affairs, meticulously transfers local press archives that shed light on the city's recent history into a digital environment.
Within this scope, the issues of Tarsus Yeni Ses Newspaper published between 1969 and 2011 are scanned in high resolution and securely stored in formats compliant with archival standards.
Transfer to Future Generations
While the newspaper issues carrying the risk of wearing out and disappearing over time undergo technical checks, they will be opened for use by academics once the studies are completed.
The digital archive to be created is aimed to be an important reference source for researchers and all citizens interested in urban history.
Oral History and Documentary Studies
In addition to newspapers and magazines, photographs, maps, ephemera, and old documents are also carefully transferred to the digital environment in the office.
The accounts of individuals who witnessed the development of Mersin will be recorded through oral history studies and transformed into book and documentary series.
Purpose and Objectives of the Project

All obtained memories and documents will be made accessible to everyone living in the city or wanting to conduct research at the national level.
