Young designer Lana Sara Piran introduced her collection, which blends centuries-old traditional clothing with contemporary lines, in Erbil.
Young Kurdish designer Lana Sara Piran, who grew up in Germany, brought her debut collection—reinterpreting traditional Kurdish attire dating back up to 400 years with a modern style—to art enthusiasts at the "Donadon" fashion show in Erbil.
A Fashion Journey from Germany to Erbil
Born and raised in Germany, young Kurdish designer Lana Sara Piran decided to exhibit her first collection in Erbil to revive the unique style of traditional clothing.
Inspired by old black-and-white photographs she saw on the internet, the designer brought to life the idea of reviving the style of vintage Kurdish attire as part of a project.
Designs Exhibited at the Donadon Fashion Show
A total of 41 different designs were presented to the audience at the special fashion show titled "Donadon".
The primary goal of the collection was stated as reinterpreting the symbols and traditional clothing belonging to different regions of Kurdistan from a contemporary perspective.
Cultural Elements and Rich Regional Diversity
The prepared designs utilized clothing and cultural elements from the regions of Diyarbakir, Urmia, Sine, Hewraman, Kobani, and Barzan.
It was noted that some of the garments in the collection date back up to 400 years, while others are more than 100 years old.
Three Years of Meticulous Work and Team Contribution
The young designer spent approximately three years working intensively on the pieces in the collection.
While tailor Erdelan Sabir, who supported the preparation of the garments, sewed 17 designs for men, the majority of the women's clothing was crafted through Lana's own handiwork.
Future Goals and Family Support
Having recently completed her high school education, Lana Sara Piran aims to contribute to Kurdish culture by studying filmmaking at university.
The designer's father, Rojhat Amedi, stated that his daughter has had a great interest in design since childhood and has worked very hard throughout this process.
