Muammer Karaca Theatre Reopens After a 14-Year Hiatus
Muammer Karaca Theatre, a long-established cultural and artistic landmark in Beyoğlu, has reopened its doors following comprehensive restoration works completed by the IMM.
Muammer Karaca Theatre, one of the iconic structures of Turkish theatre history, has reunited with art lovers following a restoration carried out by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality after a long hiatus of 14 years.
Reopened Its Doors
Having held an important place in Istanbul's theatrical memory since the 1950s, Muammer Karaca Theatre has reopened after a 14-year break. The building in Beyoğlu will host independent theatres and various performing arts in its new era.
Tribute to Masters Night
The opening of the theatre took place on the evening of September 25 with a meaningful 'tribute to masters' program. Erol Babaoğlu and Şebnem Sönmez performed live unforgettable scenes from masterpieces of Turkish theatre, Deli Dumrul and The Epic of Keşanlı Ali.
Modern and Reinforced Infrastructure
Structurally reinforced within the scope of restoration works, the venue was designed as a 300-seat theatre hall, a Theatre House, and a multi-purpose cultural space. Its stage with a view of the Bosphorus also offers artists opportunities for rehearsals.
Mengü Ertel Exhibition
Within the framework of the grand reopening celebrations, Mengü Ertel’s Theatre Universe exhibition was also presented to the audience. The exhibition brings together Ertel's posters prepared for the theatre, stage designs, and archival documents with art lovers.
