New Status and Contract Step for Dengbêjs in Diyarbakır
The Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality announced that at a meeting held at the Dengbêj House, 24 dengbêjs were granted artist status and contracts were signed.
Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak came together with dengbêjs at the Dengbêj House to listen to demands regarding the future of Kurdish oral literature and announced that 24 dengbêjs were granted artist status and contracts were signed.
Meeting Held at the Dengbêj House
The Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality continues its efforts to preserve and pass on the tradition of dengbêj, which is an important carrier of Kurdish oral literature and social memory, to future generations.
The Department of Culture, Art and Social Affairs came together with the dengbêjs operating within the body of the DBB at the Dengbêj House located in the Ziya Gökalp Neighborhood of the Sur district.

The meeting was attended by Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak, Deputy Secretary General Muhabbet Erdoğmuş, DBB Assembly Co-Spokesperson Demet Ceylan, Head of the Department of Culture, Art and Social Affairs Zeynep Yaş, members of the Culture Assembly Commission, and numerous dengbêjs.
Artist Status and Contracts
It was stated that the dengbêjs, who previously served on a voluntary basis within the municipality, will continue their services under artist status from now on.
Co-Mayor Serra Bucak stated that they signed contracts with 24 dengbêjs and determined the framework of their work.
Emphasis on Transmission to Future Generations
Zeynep Yaş, Head of the Department of Culture, Art and Social Affairs, drew attention to the historical and cultural significance of dengbêj tradition, stating that they hope this number will increase even further in every city and district.
