Number of Museums and Visitor Rates Increased Across Turkey
While the total number of museums and the number of visitors to these museums across Turkey increased last year, data on their distribution by province has also become clear.
According to the 2025 Cultural Heritage Statistics shared by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the number of museums and visitor rates nationwide recorded an increase.
Number and Categories of Museums
The total number of museums across Turkey increased by 4.4 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 664.
Of these museums, 220 operated under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, while 426 were in the private museum category.
Artifact Assets and Distribution
The total number of artifacts in museums across the country was recorded as 4,012,294, marking an increase of 0.4 percent.
Coins and archaeological materials made up the majority of the artifacts in museums affiliated with the Ministry.
Visitor Statistics
The total number of visitors to museums and archaeological sites increased by 6.8 percent, reaching 65,862,639 people.
The number of museum cards sold by the Ministry took its place in official records as 6,804,917.
Most Visited Provinces
Istanbul led the provinces with the highest number of museum and archaeological site visitors, with over 18 million visitors.
Istanbul was followed by the cities of Izmir and Ankara, respectively.
Sites and Protected Areas
The total number of archaeological and historical sites experienced a 6 percent increase, reaching 27,703.
While the number of national parks increased by 2 percent to 50, the number of nature parks was determined as 274.
