Born in Malatya in 1952, Hikmet Barutçugil received a textile education at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts. Guided by Prof. Dr. Emin Barin, he developed an interest in calligraphy and placed ebru at the center of his artistic life.

Barut Ebru and Different Surfaces

Expanding the possibilities of traditional ebru, the artist carried ebru beyond paper, applying it to various surfaces such as fabric, ceramics, wood, and glass. Barut ebru emerged as a result of these explorations.
