Pera Museum organizes free thematic tours in September
The Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation Pera Museum is hosting free tours during its September program focusing on Ottoman coffee culture and Anatolia's commercial history.
The Pera Museum is bringing together art enthusiasts in September with thematic tours that offer a fresh perspective on its collection exhibitions. Participation in these tours, which cover coffee culture in the Ottoman Empire and Anatolia's millennia-long trade history, is free of charge.
The Impact of Coffee on Art
The tour titled Coffee: Inspiration and Innovation, to be held on September 18 and 25 at 18:00, examines the spread of coffee in Ottoman society. This tour details the impact of coffee culture on the diversification of tile and ceramic production in Kütahya.
Standing out in the study is Minas Avramidis's plate series themed around the Story of Genovefa. Through these works, visitors are shown how serialized novels read in the coffeehouses of the period served as a source for the artist's production.
Mythological Measurement Stories
Running on the same days at 18:45, the tour titled Gods, Symbols, and Measures examines the objects in the Art of Measurement exhibition through mythological narratives. The program stands out with examples progressing from the worlds of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome.
Examples such as the weighing of the heart in the Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead and geese identified with the Goddess Nanse are discussed. The stories of mythological figures that turned into symbols of Western Anatolian city-states are shared with visitors.
Visit Options
Those who wish can attend the thematic tours taking place on September 18 and 25 separately. Visitors also have the opportunity to follow both tours consecutively if they desire.
