Painter Talha Kılıç brought his solo painting exhibition titled Tragedies, consisting of 13 works created with the oil painting technique, together with art enthusiasts at the SANKO Art Gallery. Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Kılıç stated that he interprets the figurative painting tradition with a contemporary perspective.
Treating human figures, nature, animals, and everyday objects as parts of a symbolic narrative, the artist invited the viewer to think around the concepts of memory and identity.
Artistic Approach and Use of Color
Stating that he brings together the real and the imaginary, the painter said that he establishes fairy-tale-like and at times uncanny atmospheres. Emphasizing that he adopts an expressionist color understanding, Kılıç used bright and contrasting colors together.
Shaping his works with layered paint usage, prominent brush marks, and deformed figures, the artist expressed that he aims to develop a continuously transforming personal visual language.
Prominent Motifs in the Works
It was stated that jester-like figures, birds, moon and sun forms, mountains, fruits, and symbolic objects draw attention as recurring motifs in his works.
Stating that he draws inspiration from Neo-Expressionism, symbolist painting, and contemporary figurative painting movements, Kılıç noted that these details in his works reflect his artistic identity.
Protocol and Expert Evaluations
Acting Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Aykanat, SANKO Park Mall General Manager Sait Gizir, painter Özer Çağlar, and SANKO Art Gallery Executive Committee Vice Chairman Cengiz Halil Çiçek delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.
The speakers made evaluations regarding Talha Kılıç's works and stated that the exhibition contributes to the art environment in the region.
Biography of Talha Kılıç
Born in the Şehitkamil district of Gaziantep in 2000, Talha Kılıç completed his undergraduate education at Hatay Mustafa Kemal University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Graphics.
The young artist currently continues his academic studies at the master's level at Gaziantep University Institute of Social Sciences.
