The 15th Beyoğlu Second-Hand Booksellers Festival Opens Its Doors at the Former French Orphanage

The 15th Beyoğlu Second-Hand Booksellers Festival, among Istanbul's traditional culture and arts events, opened its doors to book lovers with a ceremony held in the garden of the former French Orphanage. Drawing high interest from the first day, the event will offer a rich program for nine days.

The opening ceremony of the festival was held

The opening ceremony of the festival, organized by the Beyoğlu Municipality in the garden of the former French Orphanage, was attended by protocol members and prominent figures. Hosted by Başak İkiz, the opening was attended by Beyoğlu Deputy Mayor Sefer Karaahmetoğlu, IMM Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, and Association of Second-Hand Booksellers President Emin Nedret İşli.

A meeting of art and literature

In his opening speech, Beyoğlu Deputy Mayor Sefer Karaahmetoğlu emphasized the history of Beyoğlu. Karaahmetoğlu stated that Beyoğlu is a special city where the heart of art, literature, and thought has been beating for centuries and has witnessed many stories.

First day events and talks

The festival, one of Istanbul's most established culture and art traditions, began with Emin Nedret İşli's talk titled "Cadde-i Kebir". The event continued with the "Sound of Santur in Beyoğlu" musical performance by Sedat Anar, Damla Anar, and Selahattin Anar.

A rich program lasting nine days

Within the scope of the nine-day festival, there is a rich program focused on literature, history, and urban culture. The program includes talks by Prof. Dr. Paolo Girardelli, Görgün Taner, Yekta Kopan, and Haluk Oral, as well as a traditional second-hand booksellers' auction. The festival will remain open to visitors until Sunday, September 27.
