Third Local Products Festival Opens Its Doors in Akre

The 3rd Local Products Festival in Duhok’s Akre district was held from September 17 to 19, 2026, with the participation of 100 farmers. Over 74,000 people visited the three-day event, and approximately 70 tons of local products were sold.

Festival Duration and Participation Details

The 3rd Local Products Festival in Duhok’s Akre district began on Thursday, September 17, 2026, and concluded on September 19.

A total of 100 farmers had the opportunity to exhibit and sell their locally produced goods across 100 booths set up for the festival.

Agricultural Production and Expectations

Akre Agriculture Director Fazil Mustafa stated that agricultural production in the region has increased compared to last year.

It was noted that rice was planted on approximately 13,500 acres of land this year, with production expectations reaching around 14,000 tons.

Region's Prominent Product Diversity

The region is expected to produce between 120 and 135 tons of honey, 7,000 to 9,000 tons of figs, and 6,000 to 6,500 tons of sumac annually.

Fig varieties include Yahya Beg, Benate, Shaqiri, Resh, Surxal, and Tefske, while white sumac, Baliki, and red sumac stand out among the sumac varieties.

Visitor Profile and Interest

Throughout the three-day festival, approximately 74,000 people from outside the district visited Akre, and around 600 foreign visitors were hosted at the event.

It was reported that interest in the festival, which was attended by about 40,000 people last year, increased significantly this year thanks to comprehensive preparations.

Sales Figures and Generated Revenue

During the festival, approximately 70 tons of various products produced by farmers met with new buyers.

The completed sales included 18 tons of rice, 12 tons of figs, 7 tons of sumac, 8 tons of tahini, and 25 tons of other local products.

It was announced that more than 401 million dinars in economic revenue was generated solely from sales within the festival tents.
