Gülsen Tuncer, one of the master figures of Turkish theater, cinema, and television, has passed away at the age of 80. The news of the artist's death, who had been undergoing treatment for brain cancer, was announced by the Film-San Foundation.

It had previously been announced to the public that the artist, who had been receiving treatment for brain cancer for some time, was in an advanced stage of the disease. The Film-San Foundation shared the news of her passing and extended its condolences to her family and loved ones.

Tuncer, who also served as the vice president of the foundation between 2009 and 2011, caused deep sorrow in the art and cultural community.

A Half-Century Artistic Career

Born in Adana in 1945, Gülsen Tuncer graduated from the Theater Department of the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory. During her education, she took classes from prominent figures such as Yıldız Kenter and Ayla Algan.

She stepped into her professional theater career in 1968 with the play "Zilli Zarife," staged at the Gülriz Sururi-Engin Cezzar Theater, and continued her stage work.

A Versatile Cultural Figure

Tuncer's artistic activities were not limited to acting alone; she also undertook roles in theater management, production, and artistic direction.

The artist, who undertook assistant director and directorial assistant roles in about forty film productions, also produced works as a voice actor, lyricist, and composer.

Unforgettable Screen Roles

The artist won Best Supporting Actress awards for her performances in the films "A Train Journey" (Bir Tren Yolculuğu), "It Was Cold and the Rain Was Drizzling" (Soğuktu ve Yağmur Çiseliyordu), and "Suna" in cinema.

On television screens, she won the admiration of millions in productions such as "Üç İstanbul," "Bugünün Saraylısı," "Çalıkuşu," "Aşk-ı Memnu," and "Mrs. Fazilet and Her Daughters" (Fazilet Hanım ve Kızları).

Educator Identity

Passing on her expertise in the academic field alongside acting, Tuncer taught courses at institutions such as the Istanbul Technical University Conservatory and Marmara University.

She contributed to the training of the new generation of artists by providing education on performing arts at TÜRSAK and the Sadri Alışık Culture Center.
