205 million packaging items collected across Turkey with the DRS system
Millions of beverage packages were brought into recycling in a short time with the deposit return scheme implemented on July 1.
Thanks to the DRS system launched with the national integration process across Turkey on July 1, more than 205 million packaging items were collected by September 5.
Amount of Packaging Collected Through the DRS System
A total of 205,709,303 PET, aluminum, and glass liquid packaging items featuring the DRS logo were collected through the DRS system, which started with the national integration process across Turkey on July 1, up to September 5.
The total number of registered users in the system reached 3,214,992 people nationwide.
Provinces That Collected the Most Packaging
According to the statements made, the province where the most packaging was collected was Antalya with 46,678,972 packaging items.
Antalya was followed by Istanbul with 38,675,928 packaging items and Izmir with 24,339,288 packaging items.
Ministry and Agency Coordination
The DRS system is operated by the Turkish Environmental Agency under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.
Citizens actively participate in this process by depositing beverage packaging into special DRS machines.
Economic Goals and Incentives
An incentive fee of 1 lira per packaging item is paid to citizens who deposit packaging into the system.
With this system, which aims to collect 25 billion liras worth of packaging every year, a total contribution of 30 billion liras to the Turkish economy is targeted.
