The U.S. military announced that it carried out an operation against three Iranian oil tankers on Saturday, immediately following the targeting of its naval vessels.
U.S. Central Command reported that an aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer successfully evaded the attacks and that no American personnel were harmed in the incident.
Targeted Tankers
As a result of the operation, the crude oil-carrying tankers M/T Downy and M/T Stark 1 were permanently disabled.
The empty vessel M/T Kylo was completely destroyed near the Gulf of Oman after the crew was evacuated.
Strong Reaction from Tehran
The Iranian Foreign Ministry described these aerial and military attacks by the U.S. as illegal, aggressive, and a war crime violating the United Nations Charter.
Meanwhile, the Iranian military command warned that if interference with maritime activities continues, much harsher retaliatory measures will be taken.
