5th Joint Customs Committee Meeting of Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Georgia Held
The customs administrations of the three countries gathered in Baku to accelerate transit processes and deepen cooperation along the Middle Corridor.
The 5th Joint Customs Committee meeting, organized to enhance cooperation among the customs services of Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, was held in Azerbaijan.
Participants of the Meeting
Hosted by Shahin Bagirov, Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, the meeting was attended by Turkey's Deputy Minister of Trade Sezai Uçarmak.
Georgia was represented in the tripartite talks by Deputy Minister of Finance and Head of the Revenue Service Mamuka Baratashvili along with their delegation.
Middle Corridor and Transit Operations
During the meeting, the acceleration of transit operations and the simplification of customs procedures within the scope of increasing freight transport along the Middle Corridor were discussed.
The facilitation of transit crossings specifically for the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line and the strengthening of coordination among customs administrations were brought to the table.
Digitalization and Information Sharing
Steps towards developing electronic information sharing among the three countries and expanding digital customs practices were discussed in detail.
Joint steps to be taken to make border crossing processes more effective through increased prior electronic information sharing were evaluated.
Enforcement and Protocol
Opportunities for cooperation in strengthening risk management mechanisms and jointly combating customs violations were evaluated.
The implementation status of agreements reached in previous talks was reviewed, future activities were determined, and the meeting protocol was signed.
