August Inflation Data Announced in Istanbul

According to the August 2026 data shared by the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, the Consumer Price Index in the megacity reached 34.96 percent on an annual basis.
Monthly and Annual Inflation Rates
The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce shared the Istanbul Consumer Price Index data for August 2026 with the public. According to the announced figures, inflation in the city showed an increase of 1.66 percent in August compared to the previous month.
Annual Price Increase Level
The annual increase rate of the Istanbul Consumer Price Index materialized at the level of 34.96 percent in August 2026.
Highest Increase in Education
In August, the highest monthly price increase in the Istanbul Consumer Price Index was recorded in the education expenditures group with a rate of 17.28 percent.
Changes in Other Expenditure Groups
Prices rose by 8.22 percent in the alcoholic beverages and tobacco group, and by 2.32 percent in housing expenditures. The transportation group increased by 1.43 percent, household goods by 1.41 percent, various goods and services by 1.35 percent, and the recreation and culture group by 1.11 percent.
Low-Rate Increases and Unchanged Items
Communication expenditures recorded an increase of 0.86 percent, the restaurants and hotels group 0.72 percent, and the food and non-alcoholic beverages group 0.20 percent. No price changes occurred in health expenditures during this period.
Decline in the Clothing Group
Prices in the clothing and footwear group reflected on the index with a decrease of 0.08 percent, marking the highest group decline in August in this field.
Periodic and Seasonal Effects
According to ITO's evaluation, periodic and public-driven price movements in the education, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, housing, and transportation groups were effective in the changes in the index. Seasonal developments played a decisive role in food prices.
