August unemployment rate falls to 7.8 percent while idle labor increases

According to the August labor force statistics announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 7.8 percent, while the idle labor rate rose to 31.0 percent.
Change in Unemployment Rate
According to the August data announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased by 0.3 percentage points compared to the previous month, falling to 7.8 percent.
Number of Employed Persons
In August, the number of employed persons increased by 136 thousand compared to the previous month, reaching a total of 32 million 507 thousand, with the employment rate standing at 48.4 percent.
Labor Force Participation Status
The seasonally adjusted labor force increased by 29 thousand in August to reach 35 million 247 thousand persons, while the labor force participation rate remained stable at 52.5 percent.
Youth Unemployment
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate among the youth population aged 15-24 was measured at 13.0 percent, registering a 1.1 percentage point decrease compared to the previous month.
Idle Labor Rate
The idle labor rate, consisting of time-related underemployment, the potential labor force, and the unemployed, increased by 0.4 percentage points in August, rising to 31.0 percent.
