CBRT Announces August Real Effective Exchange Rate Index
The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey has released the real effective exchange rate index data for August. Declines were recorded in both CPI and D-PPI based indices compared to the previous month.
According to data published by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), the 2025-based real effective exchange rate index fell to 105.04 on a CPI basis and 101.35 on a D-PPI basis in August.
Monthly Change in Indices
According to CBRT data, the CPI-based real effective exchange rate index decreased by 1.07 points from 106.11 in July to 105.04 in August. The D-PPI-based index fell by 0.26 points to 101.35.
Value of the Turkish Lira on an Annual Basis
Compared to the same period of the previous year, the value of the Turkish lira increased by 7.77 points on a CPI basis and 2.38 points on a D-PPI basis.
Exchange Rate and Inflation Effects
In August, the US dollar gained an average of 1.68% and the euro gained 3.20% against the Turkish lira. During the same period, the CPI increased by 1.84% and the D-PPI by 2.57%.
According to the CBRT assessment, changes in Turkey's CPI contributed to the increase of the index, while changes in the World CPI basket and nominal exchange rate basket exerted downward pressure on the index.
