Central Bank resumes one-week repo auctions
Repo auctions, which were temporarily suspended in March, are being reintroduced to support liquidity management in the banking system.
The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) announced that it has decided to resume one-week repo auctions, which it had paused on March 1, 2026. This step is considered a critical development in terms of providing Turkish Lira liquidity to the banking system.
Repo auctions are back in operation
With the Press Release on Turkish Lira Liquidity Management published by the CBRT, it was officially announced that one-week repo auctions will be restarted. This mechanism allows banks to obtain funding from the Central Bank against collateral.
Normalization in liquidity management
This funding channel, which was temporarily suspended on March 1 in line with developments in financial markets, is used as a fundamental tool in managing the Turkish Lira liquidity needed by the banking system.
While it was stated that the new decision does not include any change in the policy rate, the practice is expected to play a decisive role in the liquidity flow in the market and the effective transmission of monetary policy.
