American energy giant Chevron has secured the rights to a massive seven billion dollar investment aimed at developing the rich oil fields located in Venezuela's Orinoco region.

Investment Details and Fields

Houston-based energy company Chevron officially announced that it has won the right to make a total of seven billion dollars in investments to develop the Carabobo fields in the Orinoco region.

These strategic fields, named Carabobo 1 and Carabobo-2-South-A, are located right next to the existing Petroindependencia joint venture, in which the company holds a 49 percent stake.

Executive Statement and Strategic Position

Chevron Chief Executive Officer Mike Wirth stated that with this move, they have established an extremely strong position over billions of barrels of oil resources.

Political Background and Significance

The agreement in question stands out as the most critical capital investment made in the country by a global oil company since US special forces detained Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in January.
