Chinese President Xi Jinping departed from Beijing this morning and arrived in India's capital, New Delhi, to attend the 18th BRICS Summit.

Xi Jinping is accompanied on this important visit by Cai Qi, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Director of the General Office, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

First Engagement After Seven Years

Chinese leader Xi, who made his last official visit to India in 2019, is visiting the country once again after a full seven-year gap.

As part of the visit, the Chinese leader will hold both one-on-one talks and participate in inter-delegation meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Thaw Process Between the Two Countries

This visit by the Chinese leader serves as a continuation of the thaw process between Asia's two giant nations, which experienced a tense period due to border issues in the Himalayas.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken the first step by attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit held in Tianjin, China, last year, and the Chinese leader is now reciprocating that step.
