Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, speaking at TEKNOFEST Southeast held in Şanlıurfa, announced that the first electricity is targeted to be generated from one of the four reactors at the under-construction Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant within the next few months.

First Electricity Date at Akkuyu

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar made important evaluations regarding nuclear energy projects at TEKNOFEST Southeast held in Şanlıurfa.

Minister Bayraktar announced that the goal is to receive the first electricity from one of the 4 reactors under construction at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant within the next few months.

Increasing Energy Demand and Strategy

It was emphasized that Turkey's energy demand is increasing rapidly in line with population growth, economic growth, artificial intelligence technologies, electric vehicles, and cooling needs.

It was stated that in order to meet the increasing demand, nuclear energy must be put into service alongside renewable sources.

Sinop and Thrace Goals

In addition to the works in Akkuyu, it was stated that the establishment of new nuclear power plants is targeted in the Sinop and Thrace regions.

It was conveyed that Turkey has a vision of reaching a total installed capacity of 20,000 megawatts in nuclear energy by the year 2050.

Small Modular Reactors

Drawing attention to the beginning of a new era in nuclear energy, the importance of small modular reactor technology was emphasized.

It was stated that studies are being carried out for Turkey to catch up with the small modular reactor revolution and reach a position where it produces its own technology.
