According to balance of payments statistics announced by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, the current account recorded a surplus of 36 million dollars in July, driven by foreign trade and tourism revenues.

Current Balance Turns Positive for the First Time Since October 2025

According to the data released by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, the current account posted a surplus of 36 million dollars in July, marking the first time the current balance reached positive territory since October 2025.

The strong trend in foreign trade and the increase in tourism revenues played a decisive role in shaping this picture.

Data Excluding Gold and Energy

When excluding gold and energy items, a surplus of 4 billion 972 million dollars was formed in July.

During the same period, the foreign trade deficit defined by the balance of payments stood at the level of 5.6 billion dollars.

Annualized Foreign Trade and Current Deficit Status

According to annualized data, the current deficit approached 40.7 billion dollars, while the annualized foreign trade deficit reached 77.2 billion dollars.

Statement on the Medium-Term Program from Minister Ömer Bolat

Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat stated that the current account deficit is targeted to be gradually reduced within the scope of the Medium-Term Program.

Bolat emphasized that export growth and the rise in tourism and travel revenues during the program period are expected to support the improvement in the current balance.

He also noted that, in line with the Medium-Term Program targets, the current account deficit is projected to be 47.5 billion dollars in 2026 and 38.5 billion dollars in 2027.
