Ekrem İmamoğlu Criticizes Economy and Justice, Calls for Early Elections

Detained Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, in a post on his social media account, criticized the government by stating that deep crises are being experienced in the areas of economy and justice, and called for an urgent election.

Detained Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu argued in his social media statements that both the economy and the justice system in Turkey have collapsed, and the burden of all these negativities is placed directly on the shoulders of the citizens.

Causes of the Crisis and Emphasis on Merit

İmamoğlu attributed the deepening of the economic and judicial problems in the country to two main reasons. Listing these as incompetence and malicious exploitation of interests, İmamoğlu claimed that the system of friends and relatives has been brought in instead of merit in public institutions.

Dependence of Institutions on a Single Person

Stating that the current regime has hollowed out the supervisory and regulatory institutions, İmamoğlu expressed that meritocratic public officials who would protect the rights of the nation have been excluded and all institutions have been made dependent on the decisions of a single person.

Call for Immediate Elections

Stating that the only salvation recipe for the problems experienced is the will of the nation and the ballot box, İmamoğlu reiterated his call by arguing that an election must be held immediately so that tomorrow does not make us miss today.
