Euro Area August Unemployment Rate Stands at 6.4 Percent

According to data released by the European Statistical Office, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the Euro Area stood at 6.4 percent in August.

Euro Area and EU Unemployment Rates

The European Statistical Office shared the August unemployment data for the European Union and the Euro Area with the public.

Accordingly, the unemployment rate in the Euro Area, which was 6.4 percent in July, was measured at the same level in August.

Changes on an Annual Basis

Across the European Union, the unemployment rate remained stable at 6.1 percent on a monthly basis in August.

The unemployment rate recorded an increase of 0.1 percentage points on an annual basis across both the European Union and the Euro Area.

Distribution by Country

In August, the unemployment rate was 10.3 percent in Finland and 10 percent in Spain.

During the same period, the unemployment rate was 8.7 percent in Sweden, 8.2 percent in France, and 7.4 percent in Greece.

Total Number of Unemployed

The total number of unemployed people across the European Union was calculated as 13 million 600 thousand in August.

Official data showed that 11 million 357 thousand of these individuals were located in the Euro Area.

Youth Unemployment Data

In August, the number of unemployed youth under the age of 25 was determined to be 2 million 973 thousand in the European Union.

In the Euro Area, the number of unemployed youth has been determined at the level of 2 million 391 thousand.
