European Union Extends Individual Sanctions Against Russia by One Week

EU countries have extended the duration of individual sanctions against Russia by only one week instead of the usual six-month period due to disagreements over the removal of certain names from the list.

During the meeting, the status of Uzbek-Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov, who is on the current sanctions list, was brought to the agenda, and no consensus was reached regarding the requests of Slovakia and France to remove the businessman from the list.

Update on Sanctions Duration

EU member state ambassadors agreed to keep the sanctions list, which includes approximately 3,000 individuals and entities, in effect in its current form for one more week, extending the period to September 22.

Scope and Rules of Sanctions

Within the scope of the EU's individual sanctions, the assets of the listed individuals and entities are frozen, travel bans are imposed on the individuals, and unanimity is required for their continuation.
