Flexible generation and ash conversion plan in coal-fired power plants
It is aimed to recover critical minerals such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt from accumulated coal ash over the years and to operate the power plants flexibly.
It is planned to operate the existing coal-fired power plants in Turkey more flexibly to adapt to the renewable energy balance and to recover valuable metals from ash waste that has accumulated for years.
Flexible Operation Order in Coal-Fired Power Plants
While it is known that existing coal power plants were designed to operate continuously for long periods, the new system aims to enable these facilities to increase or decrease their production according to electricity demand.
Integration with Renewable Energy
During noon hours when solar energy is strong, the production of coal power plants can be reduced, and with the setting of the sun, production can be increased to support the electricity system.
Recovery of Valuable Metals from Waste Ash
It is stated that valuable minerals of strategic importance, such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, titanium, and rare earth elements, are present within the ash waste accumulated around the power plants.
Economic and Environmental Transformation Opportunity
Thanks to the separation of these substances from the waste through special processes, it is anticipated that large ash fields, which create environmental problems, can simultaneously transform into an economic raw material source.
