Fuel prices reach three digits with expected diesel price hike
Following developments in global markets and the projected increase in diesel prices, fuel price boards will reach three-digit figures for the first time in the history of the Republic.
Driven by developments in global energy markets, the expected increase of 4.62 TL in diesel prices will push the price per liter of diesel above 100 TL in 45 provinces across Turkey, notably in the three major metropolitan cities.
Impact of Global Developments on Oil Prices
The rising tensions in the US-Iran conflict and the Russia-Ukraine war have heightened concerns over oil supply in the Middle East, increasing upward pressure on global energy markets.
Expected Increase in Diesel Prices
According to industry sources, a price hike of 4 liras and 62 kurush per liter of diesel is expected to take effect starting from midnight connecting September 16 to September 17.
This projected increase is planned to be reflected directly at the pump without being offset by any tax adjustments.
New Price Expectations in Major Cities
Following the 6.59 TL increase on September 15, diesel prices—which stood at 95.60 TL on the European side of Istanbul, 96.75 TL in Ankara, and 97.02 TL in Izmir—will change with the new hike.
If the price hike is reflected at the pump, levels of 100.22 TL on the European side of Istanbul, 100.08 TL on the Asian side of Istanbul, 101.37 TL in Ankara, and 101.64 TL in Izmir will be seen.
Historical Threshold and Changes on Price Boards
For the first time in the history of the Republic, the price per liter of a fuel product will exceed the 100 TL threshold, bringing older types of price boards that are unsuited for three-digit displays back into the spotlight.
