Germany revises its 2026 economic growth forecast upward
Following the economic recovery in the first half of the year, Germany has announced that it has increased its growth expectations for this year and next year.
Germany raised its 2026 growth forecast from 0.5 percent to 1.3 percent as the first half of the year turned out stronger than expected.
Upward Revision in Growth Forecasts
Following a stronger-than-expected first half of the year, Germany more than doubled its growth forecast for this year. Strong exports and a large increase in public spending offset the impact of weak consumer activity.
In the Ministry of Economy's autumn projection, the Gross Domestic Product forecast was revised for 2026 from 0.5 percent to 1.3 percent, and for 2027 from 0.9 percent to 1.1 percent.
Expectations for Future Years
The ministry predicted that growth will slow down, dropping to 0.6 percent in 2028, as the impact of unstable geopolitical conditions driving up energy prices continues.
Statements from Minister Reiche
Minister of Economy Katherina Reiche touched upon the recovery process in her statements to journalists in Berlin.
Reiche stated that despite geopolitical uncertainties and global risks, the economy managed to recover in the first six months, and that this process needs to be transformed into development.
Latest Situation in the Manufacturing Sector
Recent data released in the country indicate that some stability has been achieved in the manufacturing sector, which has been going through difficult times.
According to the latest data, industrial production increased by 2 percent in August, exceeding expectations.
