Heater prices rise as temperatures drop, and opportunism is seen in winter products
Rapidly dropping temperatures have increased the demand for heaters and winter products, while some sellers have doubled prices in a short time. Experts remind consumers of complaint mechanisms.
The faster-than-normal drop in air temperatures has brought forward the demand for heaters and winter preparation products, while some sellers took advantage of the situation to double prices in a short time.
Rapid Increase in Heater Prices
The faster-than-expected drop in air temperatures increased citizens' heater shopping, and some sellers multiplied prices within a few days. The price of a radiator model showed a significant increase in September.
It was observed that electric heater prices varied across many sales platforms and were hiked by around a thousand liras within a week.
Warning on Opportunism from the Consumers' Confederation
Tükonfed President Aydın Ağaoğlu stated that opportunism is seen more during sudden demand surges and that consumers need to be vigilant during this process.
Ağaoğlu advised citizens to actively use complaint mechanisms to submit reports through the channels of the Ministry of Trade.
Wood and Coal Costs Have Increased
While winter preparations have started for those living in houses with stoves, rising price tags at wood and coal warehouses draw attention. Ton prices for domestic and imported coal vary.
While a significant budget needs to be allocated for the amount of coal a household must consume throughout the winter season, bagged coal prices increase even further with transportation.
Official Complaint Channels and Penalties
Consumers can use the Ministry of Trade's Unfair Price Increase Complaint Notification form on E-Government for exorbitant prices. The Alo 175 hotline and CİMER are also kept open for applications.
It is known by official authorities that legal penalties applied for exorbitant price increases vary within certain administrative fine ranges per violation.
Market Status of Other Winter Products
While there is no general price hike trend in textiles and winter products as September comes to an end, prices vary depending on the seller. Limited increases were observed in winter boots.
