Hundreds of thousands of new restaurants opened in the last two and a half years
While tens of thousands of new food and beverage businesses started operations across Turkey in the last 2.5 years, thousands of workplaces also closed down. The number of opened businesses surpassed those that shut down.
According to data from the Ministry of Trade, between January 1, 2024, and July 31, 2026, hundreds of thousands of new restaurants and eateries registered with tradesmen and artisans chambers opened their doors, while a large number of businesses also terminated their activities.
Opening and closing figures announced
According to data shared by the Ministry of Trade, within the specified two-and-a-half-year period, 120,835 new restaurants and eateries registered with tradesmen and artisans chambers began providing services. During the same period, a total of 57,428 businesses ended their operations. In line with these data, the total of registration and cancellation transactions in the sector reached 178,263.
Number of new businesses took the lead
According to the statistics obtained, the number of newly opened businesses being more than double the closed businesses demonstrated the dynamic structure of the sector. In the specified period, the number of opened businesses exceeded the number of closed businesses by 63,407. This situation clearly revealed that entrepreneurial efforts toward the food and beverage sector continued uninterrupted.
Sectoral supports continue
In this process where cost and financing pressures were felt, initiatives targeting the restaurant sector persisted. The Ministry of Trade announced that relevant support efforts are continuing without interruption in order to ensure that the sector can sustain its activities, facilitate access to financing, and protect employment.
