During his meeting with European Council President Antonio Costa, Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar stated that they will only support the 2028-2034 budget if national interests are taken into consideration.

Meeting and Budget Condition

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar announced in a social media statement that he met with European Council President Antonio Costa, who visited Budapest as part of his tour of European Union (EU) capitals. During the meeting, he conveyed that they can only accept the EU's 7-year budget covering the 2028-2034 period if the consensus reached serves the interests of the Hungarian people and business world.

Fine and Migration Policy

Magyar stated that they expect a swift solution regarding the suspension of the daily 1 million euro fine. He also emphasized that they will continue to maintain the necessary legal regulations and physical border barriers to prevent illegal migration.

Approach to Membership Processes

Another important issue shared regarding the details of the meeting was enlargement policies. It was clearly stated that Hungary does not support an accelerated membership process for any candidate country.
