Improvement Rate Needs to Be Increased for 2030 Energy Efficiency Target
To achieve the global energy efficiency targets for 2030, the improvement rate needs to be increased to 5.6 percent annually and investments must be raised to $3.2 trillion per year.
It has been reported that in order to reach the global energy efficiency targets for 2030, the energy intensity improvement, which stood at 1.7 percent in 2025, must be raised to an annual average of 5.6 percent in the coming period.
2030 Targets and Improvement Rate
According to a report prepared in partnership with the International Renewable Energy Agency, the COP31 Presidency, and the Global Renewables Alliance, global energy progress is lagging behind the 2030 target. The energy intensity improvement, which was 1.7 percent in 2025, needs to be increased to an annual average of 5.6 percent for the 2026-2030 period.
Investment Need and Financing Barriers
It is stated that global investments in energy efficiency and savings, which amounted to $369 billion in 2025, need to be raised to an annual average of $3.2 trillion between 2026 and 2030. High financing costs in developing countries remain among the obstacles to efficiency investments.
Electrification and Transportation Targets
Direct electrification of final consumption sectors plays a key role in increasing energy efficiency gains. While the share of electricity in final energy consumption is expected to rise from 23 percent in 2023 to 30 percent in 2030, an increase in the number of battery-powered and hybrid vehicles is also anticipated.
