As a result of an investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an access block decision was implemented by the Istanbul 1st Criminal Judgeship of Peace against the T24 news site and its social media account.

Details of the Investigation

The news portal T24 was targeted within the scope of the "Family Safe" investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

Within the framework of the investigation, an access block was imposed on the news site's internet address and its account on the social media platform X.

Rationale of the Court

In the reasoning for the decision issued by the Istanbul 1st Criminal Judgeship of Peace, 118 pieces of content published over the past year were cited.

It was assessed by the prosecutor's office that this content, alleged to carry the nature of LGBT propaganda, undermines the Turkish family structure.

Effects on the Development of Youth

In the court decision, it was argued that the content in question could negatively affect the developmental processes of young people regarding issues of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Legal Basis and Implementation

The decision was based on Article 8/A of Law No. 5651 on the Regulation of Publications Made on the Internet and Fighting Against Crimes Committed Through These Publications.

The access block decision, taken for the purpose of preventing the commission of crimes and protecting public order, was forwarded to the Presidency of Cybersecurity.

Process and Objection

It was observed that the judgeship initially rejected the request for an access block on September 25, but the blocking decision was issued as a result of the evaluation of the appeal.

Reaction of T24 Management

The T24 management reacted to the access block decision and argued that this practice would have serious consequences in terms of freedom of expression and the press.
