Information and communication sector carries its growth streak to the 10th quarter

During the growth period recorded by the Turkish economy in the second quarter of the year, the information and communication sector drew attention with an 8.6 percent increase.

While the Turkish economy grew by 2.3 percent in the second quarter of the year, the information and communication sector registered a growth of 8.6 percent, carrying its uninterrupted growth streak to 10 quarters.

Second Quarter Growth Data

According to information compiled from Turkish Statistical Institute data, the Turkish economy recorded a growth rate of 2.3 percent in the second quarter of the year.

When examining the activities constituting the Gross Domestic Product, growth in information and communication activities was calculated as 8.6 percent.

Sector's Quarterly Performance

With its performance in the April-June period, the information and communication sector successfully carried its uninterrupted growth streak to 10 quarters.

The sector last contracted by 2.3 percent in the final quarter of 2024, managing to maintain its positive momentum in subsequent periods.

Annual Growth Rates

The sector's annual growth rates over the last four quarters reached levels of 9.9 percent, 8.8 percent, 9 percent, and 8.6 percent, respectively.

Factors Influencing Growth

Turkish Informatics Association President Kenan Altınsaat stated that digital transformation in companies and next-generation technologies were effective in the growth.

Altınsaat also noted that smart cities, the use of artificial intelligence, data centers, and 5G investments contributed to the development of the sector.

Investment and User Data

It was reported that approximately 5 billion dollars of investment was made for 5G technology in 2026, and over 40 million users were reached in this field.

Sectoral Needs and Pressures

Telecommunications Operators Association President Halil Nadir Teberci emphasized that the high-speed internet needs of citizens and businesses have increased.

Drawing attention to the cost pressures on electronic communication operators, Teberci stated that investability must be preserved for growth to be permanent.
