Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto addressed the risks of the conflicts in Yemen during a speech at a maritime forum in the city of La Spezia.
Minister Crosetto stated that, together with the Chief of General Staff, they called the navy into action to ensure the safe passage of Italian vessels.
Reaction to bureaucratic delays
Crosetto emphasized that they will not allow slowness in bureaucratic decision-making processes to further aggravate the current crisis and economic costs.
He stated that disruptions in trade routes increase goods prices and directly threaten the supply chain and citizens' purchasing power.
Freedom of navigation and protection
Reminding that a large portion of global trade is conducted by sea, the Minister said that defending freedom of navigation is protecting national prosperity.
It was conveyed that the primary purpose of the military elements to be dispatched is to secure commercial vessels in the region and ensure safe passages.

Recently escalating conflicts in Yemen have significantly altered the strategic control map along the Red Sea coast.
It was reported that the Houthis, following the Hodeidah governorate, have captured strategic points such as Mocha, the Hanish Islands, and Perim Island.
