Major Layoffs and Restructuring Move from Uber
Technology giant Uber is laying off 3,300 employees in order to simplify operational processes and increase efficiency.
International transportation and technology company Uber has announced that it will lay off 3,300 people and undergo a comprehensive restructuring in order to eliminate cumbersome structures formed during the growth process and make the company faster.
Announcement of the Layoff Decision
The company's CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, officially announced in an email notification sent to employees that 3,300 people would be laid off and a comprehensive restructuring process would be initiated within the institution.
Structural Problems Brought by Growth
CEO Khosrowshahi stated that the rapid growth recorded in recent years created more layers, coordination difficulties, and fragmented ownership in the company, and that these structures have now lost their functionality at the current scale.
Reduction in Management Ranks
According to the statement, as a result of the layoffs and regulations, the number of managers within the company will decrease by 20 percent, while some managers will be reassigned to individual contributor positions.
Team and Operation Consolidations
Uber is merging three operational teams for restaurant, retail, and white-label delivery services under a single roof, while also putting core engineering, science, and delivery groups into a restructuring process.
Remote Working Rules
As part of efforts to increase the number of employees in company offices, only about 1 percent of Uber personnel will be allowed to work remotely going forward.
