Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar discussed comprehensive energy cooperation and the roadmap for a new agreement between the two countries during his meeting with Iraqi Oil Minister Hudan.

Roadmap in Energy Cooperation

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar met with Iraqi Oil Minister Hudan to discuss energy cooperation and the roadmap for a new agreement between the two countries.

In a statement made by the ministry, it was noted that an important meeting was held between Turkey and Iraq in the field of energy, and work is underway for a new long-term agreement.

New Agreement and Working Groups

Minister Bayraktar emphasized that following the crude oil transportation contract signed in August, the roadmap for a more comprehensive new agreement has been clarified.

It is planned to activate joint working groups that will swiftly finalize projects related to oil and natural gas infrastructure, exploration-production, trade, refinery-petrochemistry, and electricity.

Kirkuk-Ceyhan Pipeline Project

Minister Bayraktar views the extension of the Kirkuk-Ceyhan Pipeline to Basra and the increase of its capacity as a strong alternative to the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz.

With these steps carrying energy relations between Turkey and Iraq to a stronger dimension, it is aimed to make Ceyhan a global energy hub.

Development Road and Strategic Objectives

Efforts are ongoing for TPAO to play an active role in Kirkuk and various fields, to increase trade volume, and to achieve supply targets.

Turkey is building the Development Road not only as a transportation corridor, but also as a strategic energy route supported by oil, natural gas, and electricity transmission lines.
