Minister Şimşek Emphasizes Private Sector in Climate Finance
Speaking at the Climate Finance Policy Dialogue program held in Istanbul, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek stated that public resources alone are insufficient for climate commitments and that private capital must be mobilized.
Speaking at the 'Toward COP31: Climate Finance Policy Dialogue' program held at the Istanbul Finance Center, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek stated that the main issue in climate finance is closing the gap between commitments and financing.
The Gap in Climate Finance Must Be Closed
In his opening speech at the program, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek stated that the fundamental issue in climate finance is closing the gap between climate commitments and the financing required to bring these targets to life.
Public Resources Alone Are Insufficient
Stating that public financing plays an important role in meeting the need but is not sufficient on its own, Şimşek emphasized that no finance minister has a spare few billion dollars on hand.
He expressed that the core issue is to increase the impact of public resources and ensure that private investors feel confident about making investments.
Green Transition and Roadmap
Noting that Turkey's 2053 net-zero emission target sets the direction, Şimşek stated that the National Green Finance Strategy offers a clear roadmap.
